These Gulf Shores Beach photos were taken on a stroll between Gulf State Park and the Gulf Shores public beach area on a sunny day in July 2003.

The Gulf State Park between Gulf Shores & Orange Beach had the wonderful fishing pier. Types of fish caught off this pier are King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Bonita, Pompano and Cobia when in season. The length of this pier is 825 ft long, the longest on the Gulf of Mexico. The cost is $8.00 per person to fish and 3 bucks to walk out to the end, hang out and see what people are catching. It takes a lot of maintenance to keep our pier in great shape, esp. considering the damage that recent hurricanes have caused. NOTE: ReBuilt-Re-Opened...see more...

Gulf Shores is mostly known as a family resort area. The surf is often very gentle and a great place for small children.

The 2 photos below were taken on Ft. Morgan Rd beaches. It was a beautiful day with clear water and gentle surf--perfect for small children.

Many people do not know that Alabama even has beaches, but Alabama has the most beautiful white sugar sand beaches around. The weather is glorious, the area is full of golf courses, and the Alabama Gulf Coast has been a steady award winner in family beach vacation categories. Gulf Shores is the original and most well known part of the beach, Orange Beach has been more recently developed and Perdido Key is right next to Orange Beach. We do not have nearly the traffic problems that the Destin area seems to have now-a-days. The prices are very reasonable down in Dixie, the weather is exceptional, and the people are the friendliest ever !
