Gulf Shores Fall Color
| Most people do not think of the Gulf Coast as having much fall color but we do. It just doesn't happen in the fall ! I drove from a short distance down Fort Morgan Road up to the Gulf Shores Fire Department on Dec 3rd and took these photos. It was not even a sunny day, we had a light overcast that day but still I spotted stunning fall color.

Our crepe myrtles, sweet gum, maples, oaks, and popcorm trees can usually be counted on to put on a nice seasonal display. The only time the popcorn trees don't participate is if we have a very early hard frost and the leaves drop off before they have a chance to to the color thing. |

Peninsula Golf Course has beautiful banks of assorted trees that display lots of color across the fairways. Fall is the best time for a golf trip...cool sunny days, no traffic and nature's fabulous display. |

There is color in the tree tops but also in the understory growth. The native sumacs usually give us a flaming red. Other understory plants go thru late fall and early winter color changes. |
| But lucky us !!
All the while we enjoy the brilliant Alabama Gulf Coast fall colors , we also get to enjoy the hardy blooming plants that just never seem to quit. The gaillardias along Little Lagoon will grow and bloom within inches of the shoreline.
Talk about a salt-tolerant plant !! |

Many people do not know that Alabama
even has beaches, but Alabama has the most beautiful white sugar sand beaches around. The
weather is glorious, the area is full of golf courses, and the Alabama Gulf Coast has been
a steady award winner in family beach vacation categories. Gulf Shores is the original and
most well known part of the beach, Orange Beach has been more recently developed and
Perdido Key is right next to Orange Beach. We do not have nearly the traffic
problems that the Destin area seems to have now-a-days. The prices are very reasonable
down in Dixie, the weather is exceptional, and the people are
the friendliest ever !
