Gulf Shores Nightlife & Live Music and Good Food !!You are really most likely to catch the best music at Lulu's. Not every night, but when the better music comes thru town, they play there. Like The Sauce Boss we heard the other night....I mean this guy was GREAT ! The music is often better than the food, but the food is ok, especially if you stick to hamburgers and fried stuff. Check the schedule.
Lulu's went all out when Taylor
Hicks was on American Idol and WON !!! for goodness sakes. Here is a Beach Cam to have a look at what is going on at Lulu's right now--you have to navigate it around to see inside the restaurant--Click Here New small cafe with live music and

Lester's At last, at last, at last we have a hot new place called Lester's in Orange Beach for everyting listed above. We were there on a Thursday night and it couldn't have been a better experience. The music was *way* good and our meal set new standards for a reasonably priced dinner out and excellent service
We were so impressed with what we ordered that we took this photo right on the spot. Shown on right is the Peppercorn Seared Tuna w/ this wonderful fluffy wasabi cream stuff they make. The dish on the left is one of their most popular items we were told--Shrimp and Mushroom Spring Rolls with two sauces. Personally, we are always on the look-out for some spicey food around here so we ordered the spiciest sounding items. They were not spicey-hot but full flavored, delicious, and creatively presented. The atmosphere at Lester's is a new departure
for the Gulf Shores / Orange Beach area. Vintage motorcycles are arranged on a mezzanine
overlooking the dining. And ck out the way-cool copper bar counter surface under our food.
You can see two of the motorcycles up high. Be sure to notice how beautiful the staircase
is that takes you up to the upstairs bar and music stage. It is a fine example of good
craftsmanship and beautiful wood. Lester's plans to have Songwriter Night on
Tuesdays and Live Music on Thurs-Sun. Call first to be sure 974-2525
We have been to Live Bait in search of good live music, but when we visited, it was
just noisy loud oldies bands with some top 20 radio stuff thrown in... no original music,
no outstanding performers. But if this is your idea of good live music--give Live Bait a
try. Seems popular with the younger set.
Hurricane Ivan
remodeled Flora-bama!!
PHOTOS-See the Flora~Bama NOW-PHOTOS The Flora-bama, is of course, the world famous roadhouse supreme of this area. They have live music all the time basically, usually at several different stages. The Flora-bama is often very crowded on weekends and during the summer or holidays. The music ranges from very good to awful--with a big emphasis on local acts. You can ck their confusing website for the music schedule-look for the music link on top right of their site. Food is available in some areas of the Flora-bama and beer and drinks are consumed in great quantity. If you haven't been there before--don't miss it. The Flora-bama is located just barely across the Florida state line on the beach highway headed west from Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. It is now over-shadowed by a humongous condo parking high-rise slap up against the side of the place and has lost much of it's original visual charm. We think The
Silver Moon Cafe is sorta re-opened. It is across the street from the World Famous
Flora-bama on the Alabama/Florida state line. The Silver Moon is a 'Listening Room'--in
that the emphasis is on actually hearing the songwriters rather than typical bar-room
noise and chatter. A little further
down the road is more good music Destroyed by Hurricane Ivan.
Gone-Gone-Gone !!
It is so nice too that Characters has trigger fish on the menu--one of our favorites. The
Spicey Oriental Shrimp under Appetizers is especially good. Order it even if you don't
like hot food--it is not very hot at all. It comes with rice, but we told them to skip the
rice, or we'd have been way too full to try anything else. 14110 Perdido Key Drive ph-850/ 492-2936
We went on Wednesday night for
Songwriter's Night and found the music to be really quite good, especially the owners:
Larry & Gale.

All Rights Reserved-Copyright 2003-2008 Many people do not know that Alabama even has beaches, but Alabama has the most beautiful white sugar sand beaches around. The weather is glorious, the area is full of golf courses, and the Alabama Gulf Coast has been a steady award winner in family beach vacation categories. Gulf Shores is the original and most well known part of the beach, Orange Beach has been more recently developed and Perdido Key is right next to Orange Beach. We do not have nearly the traffic problems that the Destin area seems to have now-a-days. The prices are very reasonable down in Dixie, the weather is exceptional, and the people are the friendliest ever !
