Gulf Shores Hurricane Katrina Photos
Gulf Shores was spared the worst of the impact of Hurricane Katrina, and for that we are most grateful. Much of Gulf Shores is still rebuilding from Hurricane Ivan, and additional damage would have been more than many could handle.

Along Beach Blvd. between Gulf Shores and Orange Beach there is some wash-out on the edges of the road. This is looking west in the area of Gulf State Park.

The Brigadoon Subdivision on Ft. Morgan Road had high water and some hurricane driven debris in the road following the storm. This area is on Little Lagoon which is separated from the Gulf of Mexico by West Beach.

This home on Little Lagoon on Fort Morgan Road near Peninsula Golf Course did not have any broken windows, but did have debris in the yard.

Along F. Morgan Rd, water from Little Lagoon was under the homes on low lying property and it was easy to see where the high water mark was.

Everyone wonders about the Original Oyster House. Their signs and awnings are down, but the building looks ok.
Seems that on the beach in Gulf Shores, sand deposits are the biggest problem.

You can see how much sand has to be removed from the parking lots of the Gulf Shores Public Beach area. This is really no-big-deal compared to what we faced with IVAN and the damage that Hurricane Katrina caused to the west of us.

The City of Gulf Shores and all utility companies are hard at work doing sand removal. You can see that the palm trees are still standing by the Pink Pony Pub, so that is a great thing--that the wind was not so strong that it blew them away.

We are pretty used to seeing large piles of sand around here...
This is West Blvd.

It was a wonderful sight to see that Hurricane Katrina did NOT remove our wonderful beach. This photo was taken on West Beach.

There is some hurricane debris that will have to be removed---but nothing like the overturned cars that we saw after Ivan.

Shells are more abundant on the beach after this storm and the water is still beautiful here in Gulf Shores.

Most pools are completely full of sand in the West Beach area.

This sand filled pool is at Island Winds West Condos.

This condo building pool is full of sand on West Beach, see how short the trees and pavilion look.

Another pool full of sand.

And another....
These are all on West Beach.

This is a BEAUTIFUL SIGHT !! Most newly replaced air conditioner compressors are intact on the beach.....they are often some of the first things to go in high wind.

And on the other side of the sand is THIS.....the reason we build and live here in the first place.
