The GoZone Act and What to Means to YOU !
The Gulf Opportunity act or “go zone” is a recent tax law passed after hurricane Katrina to spark re-growth along the
Gulf Coast. The Go Zone bill allows qualifying buyers to write-off up to 50% of the price of the purchased property. The write-offs can come all in one year or they can be used for past years or years to come. The basic stipulations are as follows. The property must be located in the sanctioned areas. If it is a rental property, it may not have been placed in service prior to the purchase. If the property is commercial, it may not have been leased, rented or used to generate income. There are other requirements to qualify, but typically they are not problematic. The
Go Zone Act will expire on 12/31/08 and therefore any property must be purchased and closed on or before12/31/08.
