By using an advanced cooling technology, laser treatments are virtually painless. She can treat all skin types, even tanned skin. Usually 3 to 4 treatments are needed for laser hair removal due to natural hair growth cycles. I can truthfully tell you that all I felt was an occasional little pop or zing--no big deal and most certainly less painful than all the years of dealing with razors, cuts, stubble, BUMPS, hours spent shaving, more stubble, more BUMPS ...on and on... Dr. Smith offers BOTOX® Cosmetic & several forms of fillers too, & her prices are so good.
ProFractional™ is a quick comfortable cosmetic procedure using a laser microbeam that is used to treat a wide variety of skin condions:
- Wrinkles and fine line
- Post-traumatic scars
- Acne Scars
- Age spots
- Sun Spots
- Aging and sun-damaged skin
The ProFractional laser creats thousands of microscopic channels in the skin, These channels are surrounded by healthy untreated skin, The untreated area kick in the healing process which result in the treated areas stimulating production of new collagen. The most commonly treated areas are the face, neck, chest and hands. Sessions take 15-30 minutes and take 1-3 days to heal. Usually 1-4 sessions are needed and are spaced 3-6 weeks apart.
Dr. Smith also offer Micro Laser Peel for those wishing to lessen wrinkles, acne scars, uneven complexion, sun damage, or even sagging skin. Her intra-epidermal laser peel precisely ablates the outermost layers of the skin. This peel is meant for people who want more than a light chemical peel but only have 3 to 4 days to heal.
They also have permanent cosmetic makeup available by a trained professional. These services include eyebrows (with and without hair in the brow area), upper and lower eyeliner (available together or separately), lower mucosal eyeliner, eyelash enhancement, lip liner, lip liner with blending, full lip color, beauty mark, areola restoration or repigmentation, scar camouflage and hair imitation.
EliminInk™ Tattoo Remover is applied into tissue utilizing a technique similar to that used by the original tattoo artist. Magnesium Oxides and other ingedients in EliminInk™ "bind" to the iron oxides in the tattoo inks or color pigments and safely lift them to the surface through oxidation. A scab will form over the treated area that must be kept dry until it falls off naturally. Once it has fallen off, DermRenu™, a scar inhibitor, is to be applied topically to the treated area 2-3 times per day for up to 8 weeks to reduce the chance of scarring.
PROFILE™ BBL technology utilizes the power of pulsed light to deliver excellent results in photorejuvination therapy. By selecting the appropriate wavelength or filter, your physician will be able to treat a broad range of skin conditions caused by skin aging and sun exposure. Your skin will be smoother, more vibrant and it will have a more youthful appearance as a result.

SkinTyte is a BBL pulsed light treatment that heats the collagen under the outer surface of the skin causing it to contract and increase the skin's firmness. Treatments usually take 30 minutes, but the time can vary depending on the size of the area. There is no downtime, makeup can be worn immediately after a session. Two to three treaments are usually given and are spaced about a month apart.
“Featherlift®” is a new cosmetic procedure that lifts the face with threads.
The Feather Lift was developed by Moscow based, Georgian cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Marlen Sulamanidze.
Dr. Sulamanidze took prolene (a plastic non-absorbable suture) and cut barbs or cogs along its length so it could act as a truss to lift up a drooping brow, cheek or jowl. This lead to the development of the Aptos® thread. The Aptos® thread has bi-directional cogs that start from the middle of the thread and point toward the middle. The center of the thread is then placed below the brow, cheek fold, jowls (etc.) and gently tightened to support the soft tissue upwards until the desired correction is achieved. The Featherlift is safe and quick. It is performed under local anesthesia with the patient remaining comfortably awake. There is no surgery involved; rather the threads are inserted through a needle. Placement is deep into the subcutaneous tissue along the lines where the new contour is desired. As little as three threads will significantly raise the cheek and two threads, correctly placed will draw back the jowls.
The Featherlift can also be used to raise the brow and pull back the neck. The Featherlift is useful for patients with drooping soft tissue of the face and neck, those with weakly pronounced aesthetic contours, younger people with flaccid or flat faces, and for people with premature aged faces and necks. The lifting effect reaches it's maximum level several months later when the collagen has formed around the threads.
After the Featherlift the patient may return to work as early as the next day, although there may be minimal swelling and there is always a chance of bruising. The patient also will need to not talk or laugh for about 24 hours, gently wash the face without rubbing for about 3 weeks and as much as possible, sleep face up to avoid moving the facial skin around for a couple weeks. Dr. Michelle Smith will be delighted to have you come in for a consultation to discuss what a Feather Lift can do for you and costs involved.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Laser Hair Removal Laser Scar Removal
What is laser hair removal? How does it work?
Laser hair removal offers patients a safe, fast, and permanent alternative for dealing with unwanted hair. Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and is absorbed by hair's root. The laser used in hair removal targets the melanin (color) in the hair follicle, damaging the follicle and it's ability to grow hair.
Laser hair removal is safe enough to be used on all body parts, including the face, back, underarms, bikini line, legs, and arms.
Can all types of skin be treated?
Yes, with the Sciton Image Laser skin types I thru VI can be safely treated. Skin type I is someone who always sunburms, never tans, and skin type VI never burns (dark skin, dark hair). The ideal situation is dark hair on a light skinned person.
Can tanned skin be treated?
Yes, just mention to the doctor that you have been in the sun and are tanned so she can adjust the laser accordingly.
Will laser hair removal be painful?
A system for providing cooling for the skin is built into the Sciton Laser for pain free treatments. But since some people are much more sensitive than others, you might occasionally feel a mild pop or zing.
Can I shave before I came for laser hair removal treatment?
Yes, please do. You will want only the root of the hair to absorb the laser's energy. Do not use waxing or depilatories like Nair, Neet, Bikini Zone, etc...for several weeks before you come.
What should I expect after treatment?
Some occasional redness might be present in the treated area but this should subside within a few hours. The treated hairs will eventually fall out over the next two weeks or so.
How many times will I need to be treated?
You need to be treated 3 to 5 times at aprox 5-8 week intervals between treatments. This is because there are three phases of hair growth --Anagen, Catagen, & Telogen. Only the hairs in the growth phase called Anagen can be successfully treated.
Can there be complications?
The risk of complications is low, however discuss all your concerns prior to the treatment during your free consultation with Dr. Michelle Smith.
Can Pseudofolliculitis be treated?
Yes. Pseudofolliculitis is a chronic acne disorder caused by ingrown course or curly hair.
Is Laser Hair Removal expensive?
When considering various aesthetic options, you'll find that laser hair removal might be a reasonable option Like other appearance-related investments, such as hair coloring and cuts, teeth whitening, and chemical peels, the cost must be weighed relative to your expectations. If you frequently have ingrown hairs after shaving, you may, like myself, find laser hair removal to be almost a necessity. I find Dr. Michelle Smith's prices to be considerable lower than those typical in Gulf Shores, Mobile, Memphis and other places I have checked. Come for a no cost evaluation & consultation.
BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment
What is BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment?
A BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is natural, purified protein, which in very low doses relaxes the overactive muscles that cause frown lines to form. One 10-minute treatment—a few tiny injections—and within days, the stubborn, angry-looking frown lines between your brows dramatically relax for up to 4 months. No surgery. No recovery. And BOTOX® Cosmetic is safe, widely tested, and approved by the FDA.
How long does a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment last?
Results last about 4 months, after which lines gradually disappears without breaking down or traveling through the body.
Are BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments painful?
Discomfort is minimal and brief. Your may choose to use a local anesthetic cream or ice to minimize this. Once the injection is complete, there is usually no discomfort. I never feel anything but a slight prick---no big deal and definately worth it.
Will it radically change my appearance?
No. Expect a dramatic improvement in the appearance of your frown lines. Overall, you'll look more relaxed and refreshed but not like "you've had work done."
Will it make me lose expression?
No. The only expression you'll lose is the unintentional frowns caused by the overactive muscles So you can frown, smile, or look surprised-without the creases and wrinkles between your brows or crows-feet beside your eyes
You can read more about BOTOX® Cosmetic on the manufacturer's website.
Is BOTOX® Cosmetic expensive?
When considering your facial aesthetic options, you'll find that BOTOX® Cosmetic is quite affordable. Like other appearance-related investments, such as hair coloring and cuts, teeth whitening, and chemical peels, the cost must be weighed relative to your expectations. Dr. Michelle Smith charges by how much BOTOX® Cosmetic product is used not by the area treated, so she has a very fair approach to pricing. I find her prices to be considerable lower than those in Gulf Shores, Mobile, Memphis and other places I have checked. Come for a no cost evaluation & consultation.

Restylane Injections for Wrinkles
Restylane® is the first and only dermal filler in the U.S. composed of NASHA™ gel, Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. It is proven to give long-lasting correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds.
The benefits of Restylane®:
Documented results that last six months, or even longer
Excellent safety profile
Over one million treatments worldwide
No allergy testing required
A simple, convenient procedure
The most commonly reported adverse events were temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days.
In a simple procedure, Restylane® is injected directly into the mid-to-deep dermis for the long-lasting correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. Documented results last six months, or even longer. Individual results may vary.
Q: What is Restylane®?
A: Restylane is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume to the skin to eliminate facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
Q: What is Restylane made of?
A: Restylane is the first and only cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide moisture and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is a crystal-clear gel called NASHATM, or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid. NASHA is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid.
Q: What should patients do prior to treatment?
A: Restylane requires no pretesting, but patients should take a few precautions before being treated. Patients should avoid using vitamin E supplements, aspirin, or any similar anti-inflammatory medication prior to treatment, because these may increase bruising and bleeding at the
Q: Is Restylane safe?
A: Yes. Restylane has been used safely by dermatologists and plastic surgeons worldwide since 1996. Because Restylane is non-animal-based and fully biocompatible, allergy testing is not required. Restylane is free of any potentially infectious substances. The most commonly reported side effects were temporary redness, swelling, and bruising. These effects typically resolve within two to three days.
Q: Can Restylane be used anywhere on the face?
A: Restylane has been used in more than one million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles and to enhance the appearance and fullness of lips. However, it is currently indicated in the U.S. only for the treatment of facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
Q: How long does Restylane® last?
A: Studies have shown that the average treatment results last between six and nine months, and in some cases, even longer. The unique NASHATM technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect until the injected material is nearly gone.
Q: How often should I have Restylane treatments done?
A: Restylane lasts twice as long as collagen, so treatments are typically scheduled twice a year. Evidence shows that having a touch-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated will enhance the lasting effect.
Q: How is Restylane different from collagen?
A: Restylane is proven to deliver a longer-lasting effect than traditional collagen, with no risk of transferring animal or human infectious agents. In addition, bovine collagen is derived from animals (cow) and requires an allergy test. Because Restylane is non-animal-based, it can be administered without pretesting, so no waiting is required.
Q: Do the injections hurt?
A: Three friends of mine in Tennessee who have had Restylane injections in the lip area, said it was more painful than Collegan. One reported pain for 2 days afterwards. All three friends said they would consider Restylane for places other than lips, like the forehead area, but would stick to collegan for their lips. Dr. Michelle Smith's patients have reported no increase in discomfort over collegan, so this is good.
Q: How much do Restylane treatments cost?
A: Restylane is a customized procedure based on your specific needs, so the cost will vary from patient to patient. In general, the cost of Restylane is comparable to the cost of similar procedures. Because Restylane is longer-lasting, it proves to be very economical over
the long term. Please consult your physician to determine the best recommendation for your particular needs.

Collagen Replacement Therapy
Note: We are no longer using straight collagen filler because we have found that Restylane gives better results. If you are used to using collagen please talk to us about Restylane.
PROFILE™ Broadband Light (BBL) PhotoRejuvenation
BBL is an alternative to Thermage and is used for treating wrinkles, blemishes and other skin conditions commonly associated with aging and sun damage. The information below is taken directly from the Sciton, Inc BBL brochure.
What will BBL Treatment do?
BBL technology utilizes the power of pulsed light to deliver excellent results in photorejuvination therapy. By selecting the appropriate wavelength or filter, your physician will be able to treat a broad range of skin conditions caused by skin aging and sun exposure. Your skin will be smoother, more vibrant and it will have a more youthful appearance as a result.
What conditions can be treated with BBL?
Small Facial Veins (telangiectasia)
Redness and Flushing
Freckles (Solar lentigines)
Café Au Lait Maculae
Brown Spots, Birthmarks
Port Wine Stains
Red Spots (Hemangiomas)
Poikiloderma (mottled pigment of the neck and chest)
How does BBL work?
The light energy delivered by the BBL will gently heat up the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas will stimulate your skin cells to generate new collagen. This will hell restore your skin to its natural beauty, blending its natural colors and making it smoother, vibrant and younger looking. In addition the photothermal energy will target and eliminate many of the fine vessels that cause redness and the unwanted melanin responsible for pigmented lesions.
What areas can be treated?
Any area of your body can be treated. The most popular areas are the face, neck, back of the hands, chest and shoulders.
How many treatments will I need?
From 2-5 treatments at 2-4 week intervals will produce the desired results. Depending on the severity of your condition, you may require additional treatments.
How long will it take to recover?
This is a non-invasive and gentle procedure with virtually no down-time. In most cases you will be able to return to work, apply makeup and resume most normal activities right away.
What should I expect after the treatment?
You may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. For some pigmented lesions you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Your treated skin will feel smoother, fine wrinkles and pores will be less noticeable, and sunspots or uneven pigmentation will fade. Results depend on your condition, the number of treatments, and the area treated. Your physician will provide you with complete information about post treatment care and results.
Will it be uncomfortable?
The procedure is gentle, non-invasive, and safe. There should be minimal or no discomfort, however this varies from patient to patient and depends on the depth of the treatment. There is no need for a topical anesthesia; however, your physician may choose to use one on more sensitive areas. Your physician will recommend the best options during consultation.
What will happen during the procedure?
Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. You may briefly feel a rubber band snap or warm sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area to be treated and the type of the procedure performed. Your physician will discuss all of your options with you.
What aftercare do I need?
It is important to follow your physician's instructions. You may be given some skin care products and instructions on how to use them. These will minimize your risk of inflammation or redness and ensure the shortest healing time. You will be sensitive to UV light and you must avoid direct sun exposure until fully healed. Fully cover your skin or use a good sunscreen whenever you go outdoors.
Mesotherapy is an alternative to liposuction that is non-invasive, moves fat from the fat cells, has no down time, requires no restrictive garments afterwards, causes minimal bruising and pain, results are visible in weeks instead of months, reduces divots and scarring and tightens and strengthens the skin. Liposuction weakens the skin and causes loose skin. With Mesotherapy any weight gain goes back where it was lost unlike liposuction where weight gain shows up in abnormal places.
